Drones In The Classroom

Teacher Professional Development Program - 2025 (Online)

Bringing Drone Education to Teachers Everywhere!

Online Drones in the Classroom (DITC)
Teacher Professional Development Program

The Drones in the Classroom (DITC) Teacher Professional Development Program is now available online, making it accessible to educators across Canada and around the world! This program is designed to equip teachers with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to integrate drone technology into their classrooms in a safe, engaging, and curriculum-aligned way.

Delivered through three live, interactive webinar sessions, each 2 hours long, this professional development course is led by expert instructors who guide participants through essential topics such as:

  • Session 1: Safety, Regulations & Site Analysis – Learn about drone safety protocols, regulations, and site assessment for safe drone operations in school environments.
  • Session 2: Drone Types, Anatomy & Connections – Explore different drone models (Neo, Mini, Mavic), learn their key components, and follow along with pre-flight procedures and live demonstrations.
  • Session 3: Classroom Integration & Hands-On Activities – Discover how to implement design process challenges, project-based learning activities, and school-wide drone initiatives that align with STEM and engineering principles.

Teachers can choose to follow along with their own drones or simply watch and take notes, gaining valuable insights into practical applications, lesson planning, and classroom management for drone education.

Platform-Agnostic Approach with a Focus on DJI Neo and Mini

While the integration of drones into classroom activities is generally platform-agnostic, our sessions will primarily focus on using the DJI Neo and DJI Mini platforms. To get the most out of the course, educators may consider obtaining a DJI Neo in advance, although having a drone is not required to follow along and participate in the program.

Accessible to Educators Everywhere

Although discussions will be based around the Manitoba science curriculum, educators from across Canada, the USA, the UK, or anywhere in the world are welcome to participate. The program focuses on understanding the process of integrating drones into the classroom rather than jurisdiction-specific details, making it relevant and adaptable to various educational contexts.

What You’ll Receive:

  • A structured approach to drone education aligned with K-12 STEM learning outcomes
  • Hands-on activities and real-world applications for student engagement
